# Categories

> Group your posts, nest them one level deep, and set the order of the category bar.

Open **Blog** and choose **Categories**.

- **New category**: type a name and press **Add**.
- The **···** menu next to each category lets you **Rename**, **Add subcategory**, **Move to top level**, **Move into another category** or **Delete** it.
- **Category bar**: the categories across the top of your blog. Drag them to set the order, from left to right.

## Deleting a category

If a category still has posts, Ownsite asks where they should go: another category, or **No category**. Posts are never deleted.

## When a category shows on your blog

A category appears on your blog only when it has at least one published post. A category with only drafts or private posts is hidden. When you publish its first post, it appears at the end of the category bar.

To put a post in a category, choose it under **Category** while you write the post.
