# Journal

> A journal only you can read. Write, search, look back, and export.

Your **Journal** is a Private Page. Only you can see it. It never shows on your blog or home page, and no AI can read it unless you allow it. See [Let AI read your journal](https://docs.ownsite.me/journal-ai).

## Write

Press **Write**, then choose a kind: **Journal**, **Gratitude**, **Morning**, **Evening** or **Mood**. You can add a title, a mood, photos and `#tags`.

Entries save as you type. If your connection drops, the entry is kept on your device and marked **Not synced yet**. It saves as soon as you are back online.

> **Note:** If you edit the same entry on two devices, Ownsite asks which one to keep: **Use the saved one** or **Use this device's**.

## Find

- **Calendar**: see which days you wrote, month by month. Tap a day to read it, or **Write on this day**.
- **Search**: search for words or `#tags`.
- **On this day**: what you wrote on the same day in earlier years.

## Keep it safe

In **Me** you will find:

- **Recently deleted**: deleted entries stay here for 30 days. Press **Restore** to bring one back.
- **Export as text** (Markdown) and **Full backup** (JSON).
- **Add to home screen**: on iPhone, open it in Safari, press Share, then **Add to Home Screen**.

## Share your journal

If you want others to read it, open the journal's **Settings** and make it a Public Page. Ownsite first tells you how many entries, moods and photos will become public. After you confirm, everyone can read it at `D/journal`. You can make it private again at any time.
