Pages and looks

Make a private app for yourself

Markdown

A private page that stores what you add, like monthly spending or a habit tracker, that only you can see.

Not everything you make is for the world. A page can be a Private Page that only you see, inside your app, and it can store what you add. That is how you build a small app just for yourself, such as a monthly spending tracker, a habit tracker, or a list of trips you are planning.

It is the same page, look and block idea as the rest of Ownsite. The only difference is that the page is private and its block holds the records you add.

#How it works

A private page can carry a block: a place that stores items, each with the fields you decide. The page's own look reads those items and shows them. When you add, edit or remove an item, the block keeps it, so your data stays even when you change how the page looks.

  • Who can see it: a Private Page shows only in your app, never on your site. See Pages.
  • Where your data lives: in the page's block, kept for you. See Blocks.
  • Who can touch it: you, and an AI only within the permissions you set.

#Only you, by default

A block on a private page is owner-only from the start: only you can see, add, change or delete what it holds. This is true even for a block kind that is public on a normal page (a list, a gallery) - on a private page the AI closes it to you, so a spending or habit page is never readable by anyone but you. Making the page (or a block on it) public later is a separate change that Ownsite asks you to confirm first and shows in Settings history, so your data is never exposed silently.

#Make one

Once you connect your AI or use the built-in Ownsite AI, describe what you want.

  1. Ask for the page

For example: "Make me a private page to track my monthly spending. Each entry has a date, a category and an amount." The AI makes a Private Page with an owner-only block whose fields match what you asked for. (You can see the field types and how the page's code reads the block on Blocks.)

  2. Add your entries

Open the page's Content tab and add items, or ask the AI to add them. Each one is kept in the block.

  3. Change the look any time

Ask the AI to redesign the page without losing your entries. The items live in the block, not in the look.

#What this is, and what it is not

  • It stores records. A block holds the items you add, each with its own fields, and your page can read and write them. This is built in.
  • Code goes in script files. Pages run only script files, never inline <script> code or onclick= handlers, so an AI puts the page's code in a .js file next to index.html.
  • The look is page code. Anything the page shows, including a total, a monthly summary, or a simple chart, is part of the page's look that the AI writes. Ownsite does not ship a chart widget; the AI builds the view out of your entries. Ask for it in plain words and the AI makes it.
  • It is not a shared database or a multi-user app. A private page is for one person: you. If you make the page public later, Ownsite tells you exactly what becomes visible first.
Note:

A private page is closed to AI the same way the journal is: an AI can read or change what it stores only if you allow it in AI permissions.
