Money

Markdown

Ownsite's own app for your money: spending, a budget, how much you save, your accounts and net worth, and saving goals. Only you can see it.

Money (at /spending in your app) is an app Ownsite makes, the same for everyone who turns it on in Apps. Your records and settings are yours; its look and how it works are ours, and they update by themselves. Only you can see it.

It has five tabs that share the same records:

  • Overview: what you spent this month, what is left to spend, what you are on track to save, how much you saved each month, and your net worth.
  • Transactions: every record. Money back (a refund, a friend's share) is linked to what it was for and lowers that category.
  • Categories: where the money went, compared with last month.
  • Budget: a monthly limit per category, either flex (dining, shopping: you decide) or fixed (rent, bills). The number on top is what is left to spend freely this month. Saving shows the month as a sum: take-home pay − fixed − flex = saved, with your savings rate. Until this month's pay arrives it counts on your usual pay (the median of recent whole months).
  • Assets: your accounts and what each held on a day, your net worth month by month, and your goals.

#Saving and goals

In Adjust all you can set your monthly take-home pay (leave it empty to use your pay records) and how much you want to save a month; the page says whether your budget leaves room for it.

A goal is counted one of two ways: by a kind of money (cash, investments or net worth), which follows your balances with nothing to keep up; or by money you set aside for it from your accounts (an account can give several goals part of its balance, never more than it holds). Each goal shows when you reach it at your current pace and, with a target month, what it takes a month, which you can make your monthly saving goal in one tap.

#Accounts and investments

Record a balance whenever you have a new one; old ones stay, so you can see the change. Cards and loans are recorded as what you owe. An investment's month is split into what you put in (transfers to it: choose it under "which of your accounts" on a transfer, plus what your pay puts in every month, such as a 401(k)) and what the market did.

#With an AI

Ownsite AI and any AI you connect read the same numbers through get_budget, get_cashflow and get_accounts, and change things through set_budget, set_accounts and set_goals, after saying what will change and getting your yes. It can read a statement you send and record its ending balance. See what an AI can do.
